the artist - Dr Panicos Michaelides
the artist at work Dr Michaelides was born in Limassol, Cyprus. He studied medicine in Glasgow and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Until 1984 he was senior specialist and Head of the Orthopaedic Department of the Limassol Hospital.

His involvement in Art covers a period of about forty years. He studied Enameling at the Sir John Cass School of Art, in London, and worked under skilled enamelists and metalsmiths in many workshops in England, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, the United States, India, South Korea and Japan.

He is a Founding Member of the Enamelist Society, USA, Associate Member of the British Society of Enamelers and Contributing Editor of "Glass on Metal".

Fifteen Solo Exhibitions in Cyprus, Washington D.C. and Greece. He has exhibited works in painting, sculpture, woodcarving, batik and coppercraft. He now works with silver, gold and enamel, specialising in cloisonne and plique-a-jour enamel.

He participated in many International Exhibitions in Enameling in America, Hungary, Mexico and Japan and in 1991, at the Third Biennale at Kentucky, USA, he was one of the jurors. His work has been repeatedly exhibited at the Ueno Royal Museum and the Ginza La Pola Gallery, in Tokyo, as well as The Syosenkyo Rope-Way Shippo Museum [Yamanashi Pref.], having received nine awards from Japan, with "The Grand Prix Award" in January, 2000.

The Enamelwork of Dr Michaelides was shown on Television by CNN INTERNATIONAL on March 31st, 1996, in its program "CNN World Report".
